    • RE: Is there a way to start playback other than holding down C2?

I see the problem, but even if it was possible, adding DAW synchronisation by default now would break existing projects, so it had to be a opt-in function.

I'll dig a bit around to see how the syncing is done, I can imagine it will be a bit tricky to get the timing 100% precise...

    • FAQ

This page will address some of the questions that have been raised by PercX customers and people who are interested in PercX. It'll be updated regularly.

      How to download PercX

After you've set your password (via the e-mail you automatically get after purchase, please also remember to check your spam folder), you'll be redirected to your Auddict Account in order to download the installers for Windows / macOS. You can also access your Auddict Account after setting your password to re-download PercX at any time.

How to get the PRO collections

If you've bought PercX PRO, you've acquired all 5 collections currently available in PercX. However on the first install, it will just install the Core Kit by default. So if you ask yourself where the remaining stuff is, just head over to the store and press the SYNC button on the left. It will download the missing content in the background and soon you'll be able to enjoy the full content.

You can activate and use PercX on up to 8 computers with a single license. If you install PercX on a new system, press SYNC to download all you acquired collections.

      Where is the SOLO Button

TLDR: Double click on the power button of each track.

Until now there is no SOLO button. We've designed the UI to keep the redundancy as low as possible, so we've coallascated the solo button and the power button functionality in one UI element. Since this is something that many people have stumbled over in the first reviews or feedback, we'll think about adding a solo button.

Why did you build a DAW inside a plugin so you can put a DAW inside a DAW? Are you crazy?

Excellent Question, dawg. We've started the development of PercX with one goal: we want to make an engine for percussion instruments that can play any percussion loop perfectly in sync in any tempo without artifacts and retain the ability to completely deconstruct them and rebuild them in an effective workflow. Most percussion sounds have a really simple genesis: somebody takes a wooden stick, beats something with it and lets it ring off. This procedure results in a "hit" with a decaying sound and you can just take the hit and place it where you want it in your music.
However, there are some kinds of sounds which to not have a 100% perceivable "hit": for example shakers produce a sound as soon as you move them, but you'd expect the "musical" accent to be somewhere where the movement reaches terminal velocity. And if you take processed sounds (eg. reverse cymbals or build ups that should end on a beat), this problem gets worse, because these kind of sounds have a really long "preroll", which, in PercX, looks like this:

      dawg.png

If you want to edit a rhythm that uses one of these sounds in your DAW, you would have to deactivate quantisation, and move the notes somewhere before the beat in a trial and error manner until it matches the rhythm you expect to hear (and we all know the joy of doing this, then playing the sequence, stopping playback, move the note a litle bit more to the left and repeat). This is tempo dependent so as soon as you change the tempo, you need to reevaluate the "predelay" (also the preroll varies between RR variations, so the timing will get sloppy).

The engine of PercX - unlike a DAW which communicates with a plugin like a black box via MIDI - has knowledge of the preroll of every single sample and can adjust the predelay dynamically during tempo change and use it to snap the notes to their real "musical" position, so you can still rely on the quantisation raster in your editing workflow.

TLDR: Supporting percussion instruments with prerolls is the reason why we've went through the extremely tedious procedure of building a feature complete MIDI editor inside PercX, so you can modify the existing rhythms as well as create your own patterns without loosing the information of the prerolls.

Another major feature of PercX is the ability to scale down the dynamics of a loop by reducing the velocity of each note. Since this would also result in timing differences because of varying prerolls, this feature also only works if the pattern data is being created inside the plugin.

Can I change the time signatures

The content in PercX uses different time-signatures to match a broad range of musical genres, however if you like a certain kit, but it doesn't fit in the time signature you want it to be, you can always change that. On the Edit Tab, you can change the time signature to any arbitrary type. However since all we've done right now is a mathematical change, the actual rhythm of the music will still be the old time signature (so in case of a 15/16 time signature, it'll just truncate the last sixteenth note). In this case you need to experiment with changing the rhythmic structure in the EDIT tab to match your new time signature.

I accidentally chose a too high plugin resolution. How can i reset the interface?

No worries. You can open PercXs settings in a file editor. In the Appdata folder (win: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Auddict\PercX\) (macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Auddict/PercX/ ) you can find a GeneralSettings.xml file in which you can reset the scale factor back to "1", to reset the interface to 100%.

    • RE: PercX , ROLI and other noob questions

      Hi Chris,

Has anyone used PercX with a Roli and any thoughts on compatibility/issues?? I realise MPE data is not of that much much use in percussion but was wondering if anyone has tried it.

The ROLI Lightpad is a generic MIDI device after all, so it shouldn't be any problem triggering kit playback or play manual notes. MPE is just cycling through MIDI channels with each note and PercX doesn't care about the MIDI channel 🙂

Can the MIDI CC command that is used to trigger/record the tracks and do complete mix playback be set - I can configure this in my ROLI Lightpad dashboard or drum kit but that means configuring loading different profiles each time

PercX is triggered by notes like indicated on the keyboard:

      058b01cb-258b-4dbf-be93-a40c7a567ad3-image.png

It starts with C and goes upward for two octaves, so you should be able to play at least one of the two players with the default Lightpad note layout (you might have to transpose it, but that shouldn't be a problem).

Is there any way to assign MIDI commands to control the PercX editor.... e.g. I am using a Korg MIDI controller to control mute/solo/record/levels in my DAW and it works great... wondering if this would be possible in PercX

No, the editing capabilities in PercX are not connectable to MIDI control. You can control many parameters of PercX with a MIDI CC controller though by connecting it to one of the 8 CTRL knobs and then assign a MIDI CC to it:

    • RE: Big Tom Toms?

While I agree that the current content is focused on cinematic percussion, there are ways to create other styles with the existing content (plus we're currently working on new content that goes in that exact direction).

A good trick is to use the KIT Generator and set the attributes to DRY so that it filters out the Matrix Revolutions Toms when creating the KIT, then go from there (also you might get away with adjusting the envelope to cut the tails for making roomy percussions more dry, but that is of course not the most ideal solution if you're after a "realistic" dry sound).

Oh, and I forgot to mention that most KITS that you load are played in the "loudest" dynamic by default, so you can get them a little less doomsday if you turn down the DYNAMICS knob for all tracks a bit.

      Hi,

this forum is supervised mainly by the development team of the standalone software products (PercX and HEXERACT) but there is a support ticket system on the Auddict website that will get you to general support for KONTAKT based libraries.

I don‘t know too much about the installation procedure for KONTAKT libraries, but normally you just need to extract the archive that you‘ve downloaded and then drag it into KONTAKT (it won‘t appear in the tab though because its‘s not a KONTAKT Player library.

    • RE: Syncing to DAW (Cubase) tempo track
      1. Yes, the tempo will be always in SYNC with the DAW, so changing tempos between bars should update PercX's tempo without any issues. However if you have a continouus tempo change, it might be possible that there will be some minor tempo inconsistencies based on the way that the DAW sends the tempo updates to the plugins (it may vary between DAWs).

      2. We've added this feature with the latest 1.3.0 update, so you can set a playback ratio for each track as described here: https://docs.auddict.com/percx/mix/index.html#playback-speed. If you want to change all tracks at once, make sure to select all tracks before you change the playback ratio.

      Hi Richard,

if the plugin finds the corrupt expansion file, it means that the folder exists 🙂

However sometimes the user app data folder is hidden on certain macOS systems, but you can make it show up using the Finder's Goto Folder function (Cmd+Shift+G). Please enter the exact phrase ~/Library/Application Support/Auddict into the textbox of the popup and it should show you the location (don't forget the ~ because without it it takes you to a completely different location).

    • RE: Perc X Round Robin

      Hi Jacob,

we've taken a look at the problem and it is in fact "not a bug but a feature" 🙂

The Dynamics knob is not just a velocity scaler and there are a lot of hidden features and tricks that work behind the scenes in addition to just scale the velocities in order to achieve an organic effect when downscaling the dynamics. One of them is that once a certain threshhold is passed it starts shuffling the round robin samle indexes in order to avoid the machine gun effect.

Unfortunately this function has the weird side effect that you are experiencing if you try to make a consistent sample playback for certain types of music genres (and yes you really don't want a four to the floor kick drum to randomly jump between samples).

However the solution is pretty easy: just leave the dynamic scaler at 1.0 (this ensures a WYSIWYG for the round robin indexes) and then use the velocity sliders for each MIDI note in the EDIT window to set them to the velocity you want (right click to draw a line):

      dd91b2e3-14f0-4e01-a07f-6b2df240653b-image.png

As for your other request, it's a good idea to allow the note that triggers the playback to control the dynamics by its velocity, but it wouldn't help in your case, because then you would end up with the downscaling and shuffling of the round robins again (plus it has to be an optional feature that you turn on). But we'll add it to the backlog for the next update.
